Muscle Physiology and Comparative Biomechanics

I'm a fourth year PhD candidate in the Azizi lab at UC Irvine in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology department.

My dissertation work focuses on the mechanical and physiological determinants of elastic energy storage and return. I use a combination of in-vitro/in-silico muscle preparations and in-vivo techniques to understand how each component in the anuran elastic mechanism (i.e., latch, spring, motor, and nervous system) affects elastic energy storage capacity, and ultimately whole organism performance.

To understand elastic recoil systems more broadly, I am fortunate to work along side the Impulsive MURI, a multidisciplinary group focused on understanding ultra-fast movements in biological and engineered systems. You can read more about our team's discoveries here.
